Haedong Kumdo - 海東劍道
Definition of Haedong Kumdo – Hae mean Sea, Dong means East, Kum means Sword and Do means way thus the meaning of Haedong Kumdo is Translated as the Eastern Sword Martial Arts. Haedong Kumdo is Literally translated in to Original Korean Sword Techniques, traditional Kumdo trained in to prepare for the real battle.
It’s the traditional Kumdo for real battles, totally different from the training with Jukdo (using sword made with bamboo). The trainers of Haedong Kumdo uses real sword which weighs about 1.2 kg; they drill in a traditional way by unifying Kumbups (the training to get used to the sword), Kyukgum (the training to acquire the skill of cut and thrust), Begi (the training to learn the skill of cutting straw or Bamboo, paper, etc.) and Hoheubbub (abdominal breathing).
Sword techniques are not the only important skills for fighting; drills for defending oneself and defeating opponents is also important. By improving physical strength, one can exercise endurance.
By practicing the constant changes of subtle acts, the posture become refined and cultivates one’s mind into a noble state of one’s spiritual and physical balance with physical fitness.
